Mary Scarf
I wanted to make a scarf for a friend of mine. So I started playing around with braided cables mixing them with more simple cables and came up with this arrangement. I added the yo’s and a moss stitch ruffle for decoration. It all came together quite nicely. The scarf is reversible, so you can twist it around any way and there is not wrong side showing! This scarf works well for weight between a dk and chunky. I have made it with Manos Classica, Misty Alpaca Chunky and Malabrigo Twist. I love this scarf, I have one that I made for myself and wear it all the time. It is warm and cozy and very pretty. I have also made several for friends, it makes a lovely gift!
Sizes:
Malabrigo Twist -: Length: - 65 “, Width: - 5 “.
Manos Classica - : Length: - 65 “, Width: - 5 “.
Misti Alpaca Chunky -: Length: - 65 “, Width: - 5.5 “.
Materials:
Yarn: Malabrigo Twist, 100% merino wool; 150 yds per 100g skein; color: #412 Teal Feather, 3 skeins, 375 yds. (Pictured below).
Manos Classica, 100% wool; 138 yds per 100g skein; color #26 Rosin, 3 skeins, 370 yds.
Misti Alpaca Best of Nature Chunky: 100% baby alpaca; 108 yds per 100g skein; color: #BN01, Blue Corn, 3 skeins, 324 yds. (Pictured left).
Needles: Malabrigo Twist: Size 8/5mm needles.
Manos Classica: Size 9/5.5mm needles.
Misti Alpaca Chunky: Size 10/6mm needles.
Other: Locking marker or safety pin to mark RS, cable needle, tapestry needle.
Gauge: Malabrigo Twist: 15 sts and 21 rows = 4” in Stockinette Stitch with size 8/5mm needles.
Manos Classica: 16 sts and 20 rows = 4” in Stockinette Stitch with size 9/5.5mm needles.
Misti Alpaca Chunky: 14 sts and 16 rows = 4” in Stockinette Stitch with size 10/6mm needles.
Notes:
This scarf is reversible. The cables are constructed with a 1 x 1 rib stitch. What appears as a 4-st cable is actually an 8-st cable, the purl sts are not visible. I find that when working reversible scarves, it is helpful to mark the RS with a locking stitch marker or a safety pin. Gauge is not critical and any yarn weight between a DK and chunky works well for this pattern.
