Inspiration for Material Girl Socks came from the iconic fashion Madonna brought to the 1980s. Defined by punk-pop as “garbage chic” style, featuring lace layered tops, tulle skirts, fishnet stockings and messy hairbows. Many girls, including myself, would go to the salon asking for the curly perms and then tease out our hair to be held in place with lots of hairspray for the messy big hair that was popular during that decade. I remember cruising the town with my friends, playing the Madonna album in my tape deck, turning up the volume loud and singing to all her songs!
