From Nancy Bush's Pattern Introduction These elegant gloves are named for Merike…who took me to Estonia for the first time, introduced me to her native country, and opened so many doors for me.…When I first saw this type of glove,…we shared our delight in it. The traveling-stitch patterning (made by moving one stitch over another) is known as vikkel in Estonian.
These gloves begin with a double-start cast-on. The thumbs have decorative gusset shapings, which are more common in gloves than mittens in Estonia, worked with yarnovers.
