Mermaid Scales Tissue Packet Holder
This pattern is actually two patterns in one: You can choose to make this tissue packet holder using stockinette stitch or the Mermaid Scales stitch. Either way, you can turn a small amount of leftover fingering yarn into a pretty and useful pouch to hold your tissues. Classy to pull out of your bag or desk, this also makes a great stocking stuffer, “get well soon” gift, or just a little something for a friend.
Yarn amounts and neeedles:
To make the smooth stockinette pouch, you’ll need 12-13 grams of fingering yarn and size US 3/ 3.25 mm needles.
To make the textured Mermaid Scales pouch, you’ll need 14-15 grams of yarn and the size US 3/ 3.25 needles plus size 5/ 3.75 mm.
The pouch is worked flat.
Construction and yarn choice:
The Mermaid Scales stitch is easy to learn and fun to do and really brings out all the tones in a beautiful yarn. And if you’ve got yarn with a little sparkle, you’ll really see those sparkles!
The stockinette version is perfect for yarns with highly contrasting colors or a lot of speckling - the streamlined design lets your yarn shine. Or go for a classic look with a solid color. For an accessory like this, you can’t go wrong.
In either case, the pouch is worked as a rectangle, starting and ending with ribbing, then folded like an envelope and seamed at the ends.
Difficulty: Beginner.
The stockinette pouch uses just knit and purl stitches. The Mermaid Scales pouch has a novel stitch pattern, but it’s explained in the pattern, including photos. The small nature of the project makes it an easy win even for a less experienced knitter.
Pattern support: Designer email is included in the pattern in case you have questions.
