These flip top mitts are so versatile. Wear them as mittens for warmth and simply flip off the hand and thumb coverings for fingers free quick access to phone, cup, whatever!
Worked in fingering weight yarn, these mitts are a perfect choice for mini skein sets or leftover sock yarn. The pattern begins with instructions for simple mitts. Stop there or continue onward. Pick up stitches along the ribbing of the mitts on one side to create convertible mittens.
The thumb cover is worked as a separate piece that is seamed onto the thumb.

Measurements: To fit child (adult s/m adult l/xl).
Circumference: 5 ½ (7, 8)”/ 14 (18, 20.5) cm
Length (excluding scalloped edging): 7 ½ (9, 9 ¾)” / 19 (23, 25) cm.
Materials: Approximately 350 (400, 430) yds / 320 (366, 393) m fingering weight yarn.
Sample shown is size adult s/m and was knit in Cape May Fibers Fingering Weight Mini Skeins Set (75% superwash merino, 25% nylon)—460 yds/ 421m total, with 92 yds / 84m per skein in colors A – E worked in order from darkest to lightest.

Needles: Set US Size 2 (2.75 mm) double pointed needles or preferred needles for working a small circumference in the round.
Gauge: 32 sts 44 rows = 4” (10cm) in st st and textured pattern.
