Miss Carter’s Tree shawl is a two-color triangular shawl with slip stitch design and leaf lace edging. The prototype was made with two colors of Swan’s island Fingering (100% certified organic merino, 525 yds = 100 g), 1 skein each of Beetroot (MC) and Natural (CC). The sample shown used 446 yards of MC and 236 yards of CC using US #3 (3.25 mm) needles.

To get the stitch pattern to appear correctly, choose a darker color for you MC and a lighter color for your CC. Any solid, semi-solid, or speckled fingering weight yarn of appropriate yardage is acceptable. Miss Carter’s Tree may not look as nice with a heavily variegated yarn.

Please note that yarn amounts are approximate, and allow for a 10% variance when purchasing yarn. Feel free to use other colors, but please make sure they are not too close in value; the slip stitch pattern may not show up otherwise.
