This light little lace scarf is the ideal project for the near beginner. It was done for and named after dear friend Missa, who happens to be a Yiddish speaker – shal is Yiddish for ‘scarf’. It features the traditional Cat’s Paw pattern and the Razor Shell as a spine and teaches you to increase and decrease for the beginning and end tips of the shawl. It is ideal for those slightly cooler summer evenings.

Needle size
3mm

Tension
30 rows over lace pattern (after blocking) = 10 cm. The width will depend on how strongly you tease the piece when blocking.
It is always wise to do a swatch to establish your tension; adjust your needle size accordingly.

Size
Width: ca 18cm
Length: ca 145cm. You can make it longer or shorter by adding or subtracting pattern repeats, bearing in mind that each pattern repeat is 16 rows. Notice that if you want a longer scarf you’ll need more yarn.
Size can also be adjusted by using larger or smaller needles.
