Moon Blossom was developed based around the art of block printing, a style that combines carving blocks into various shapes for printing on fabric. I kept thinking of little flowers in a row repeatedly, but not continuously, to form a sophisticated yet fun yoked sweater pattern.

I thought immediately of Crista of Crista Jaeckel Bags, a Boston-based sewist, block-printing knitting bag maker (and friend!) and asked if she might host a special collaboration with me and Jensen of Sugarplum Circus. Jensen makes absolutely thrilling colorways, and this all felt like a great fit for this sweater idea, and I’m so pleased with the result!

Moon Blossom is a yoked, colorwork sweater, worked from the top down. It is designed to be oversized, with slight balloon sleeves and an optional A-line waist to hem. I’d wear this with almost anything-from dresses and skirts, to jeans and leggings.

The colorwork pattern is charted.

This yoked sweater is knit from the top down in the round. The sweater begins by working the neckband. Then short rows are worked to add height to the back neck. From there, you will begin working the yoke and incorporating the colorwork charts as denoted. Once you have finished the yoke section, you will separate the sleeves and body. Front and back are joined at the underarms to knit in the round. The body is worked in the round, and for an A-line bottom, one needle size is increased when called for. Finally, the sweater is finished with a bottom hem trim rib. The sleeve stitches that are on hold are then worked in the round to the cuff.
