This PDF crochet PATTERN gives you easy, step-by-step instructions how to crochet this beautiful Mosaic Crochet Moth Shawl. This is a lovely warm and cosy shawl, perfect for chilly days. It is made using Inset/2-row mosaic crochet technique- full written instructions and a chart are given in the pattern.

Please note: due to the nature of this inset/2-row version of mosaic crochet, short lengths of chain are made on the reverse. See photo of the reverse side. These can either be left loose or can be covered and incorporated into other stitches to hide them. Full details are given in the pattern.

Suitable for beginner level upwards, the 10-page pattern includes

  • full written row-by-row instructions (UK crochet terms, US terms are given in Abbreviations list where applicable)
  • pattern notes
  • stitch abbreviations
  • special stitch instructions
  • mosaic crochet chart and instructions

You can either use the gorgeous Scheepjes Colour Crafter and Metropolis yarns listed in the pattern, or any DK yarn you like. For the main shawl I used Colour Crafter: 2 x balls Yarn A (1218 Zandvoort) as the background colour, and 1 x ball Yarn B (1711 Leeuwarden) for the patterned ‘moth’ motifs. For the edging and tassels I used Metropolis: 1 x ball (076 Sevilla). You will also need a 5.5mm (US I-9) crochet hook for the main shawl and a 3.5mm (US E-4) crochet hook for the edging.

Your finished shawl will measure approximately 150cm wide by 50cm deep (59 x 20in).

I absolutely loved designing and making this shawl, and I hope you love making it (and wearing or gifting it!) just as much. Any questions, just give me a shout!
