Mrs. M's Mirrored Foundation Stitches
A new technique which I developed for using Foundation Crochet stitches at the end of a project.
Mirrored Foundation stitches, just like their traditional foundation crochet twins, offer a strong, stretchy, attractive finishing edge to both crochet and knitted fabrics. Edge-to-edge projects can now have truly matching borders: simply start your project with a row of traditional foundation stitches, and finish with a row of Mirrored Foundation stitches.
Mirrored Foundation stitches can also be used for: binding off toe-up socks; adding a stretchy neckline, hem, or narrow cuff to a garment; making a comfortable band for a top-down hat; replacing a plain Tunisian bind-off with something more decorative.
Ideal for knitted and Tunisian projects, Mirrored Foundation Stitches can also be applied to crochet projects, once you draw up a series of preliminary loops.
Blog post (see below for link) includes instructions for Single, Half-Double, and Double variations of the Mirrored Foundation stitch, with a video demonstration.
The photos at left show Half-Double applied to crochet, Single applied to knitting, Double applied to crochet, Half-Double applied to Tunisian, and Half-Double applied to the Just Because Cowl.
Thanks for viewing, and happy crocheting!
