Welcome to my newest sock design! Please enjoy 25% off the pattern through March 15, 2026! No coupon is needed!

Having recently designed a pair of socks specifically with my husband in mind (Papa’s Favorite Socks), I decided to design a pair with my own favorite features. We called our grandmothers Nana when I was growing up, so that’s the name my grandchildren call me! I love an overall colorwork pattern, so we can tick that box, but I didn’t want to be glued to a complicated chart when knitting, so I kept the pattern repeats to 2 or 4 stitches with frequent one-color rounds and worked the entire sock in just 2 colors. This helps keep the colorwork sections a bit more flexible as well. Another plus—if you use 2 100g skeins, you can get 2 pairs of socks by switching the main and contrast colors. I really love the way the multi-color Mondim yarn works in this pattern, but 2 solid colors would also look great! I am very happy with my new socks!

Not wanting to leave anyone out, the pattern includes 4 basic sizes (by foot/leg circumference), child through adult large. The length of both the top and the foot can be easily adjusted to suit, which adds additional sizes/options. This top-down pattern includes suggestions for customizing the fit such as adding length, adjusting for a high instep and adapting your socks to fit a wide calf.

There are some special features in this pattern that will be appreciated by veteran and novice knitters alike: the heel is my favorite Dutch heel with the slip stitch patterning curving around onto the sole. The toe shaping is the popular wedge shape with the last few stitches grafted together for a seamless fit (instructions and video link in the pattern). There are instructions on adding optional reinforcing thread to both heels and toes to keep your wool socks hole-free! The design is well-suited for wearing in shoes, boots, clogs and sandals, and is appropriate for home, work and/or outdoors wear!

I sourced this lovely yarn here in the US at The Woolly Thistle, an on-line shop specializing in woolly wool. This is an affiliate link which generates a small commission for me at no additional cost to you!
