This sideways knit shrug starts with a bit of ribbing at the cuff and then switches from knitting in the round to knitting flat to achieve the shrug shape. Add in some increases, some decreases, and a little lace and you have the perfect recipe for a dark side shrug that is customizable.

Named after a crater on the dark side of the moon, this shrug is meant to fit more snugly across the shoulder and curl up a bit at the edges due to the ribbing. Pay attention to the directions for the
needle sizes as I also switched sizes from cuff to body and back again.

This pattern is meant for intermediate knitters to experienced knitters and all those in-between.

Yarn: Purly Shell Awesome Sock, 400 yards, 80%
Merino, 20% Nylon, approximately 650 yards used
for L on model, ( 550 M, 750 XL, 850 XXL, 1000
3XL, 1250 4XL)

Needle: US 4 (3.5 mm) and US 5 (3.75 mm) Signature circulars and double pointed needles or needles to obtain gauge

Gauge: 5 stitches per inch (spi) and 8 rows per inch (rpi) OR 20 stitches & 24 rows to 4 inches/10 cm in stockinette on US 5s

Size: 32”, 34”, 36”, 38, 40”, 42”, 44”, 46” chest

To alter the size: Adjust your gauge to increase or decrease the size of the shrug as needed. You may also add repeats of the center chart to make the shrug wider through the shoulder. Additionally, you can add stitches to the ribbing in the cuffs and
along the edging to make the sleeves
