Night Shift
ERRATA: The line after Row 16 of Section Two should read “Work all 16 rows of SECTION TWO a total of THREE times. 133 sts.
As I started a new life in Chicago, I took a job working graveyard to support myself. While initially unappealing, I soon found that I have plenty of time to knit, even on the clock! As an ode to my new vampire-esque lifestyle, I designed NIGHT SHIFT. With two colors of sport or fingering weight yarn, this shawl uses stripes and a slipped stitch pattern, evoking the passing appearance of day and night contrasting between each half. Choose your two favorite colors and knit in the moonlight like I do.
MATERIALS:
SAMPLE ONE:
Two skeins of Reywa Harmony (50% yak down, 50% wool. 328 yards.)
• Color A: Bone (301 yards used.)
• Color B: Slate (328 yards used.)
83” in wingspan, 23” from top of shawl to deepest point.
20 sts and 44 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch after blocking.
SAMPLE TWO:
Two Skeins of EasyKnits UK Deeply Wicked (100% Superwash Merino. 437 yards.)
• Color A: Dark Things (305 yards used.)
• Color B: G&T Time (335 yards used.)
83” in wingspan, 23” from top of shawl to deepest point.
24 sts and 44 rows = 4 inches in garter stitch after blocking.
(US 5 32” circ needle, one stitch marker, and tapestry needle used for both samples.)
Gauge not critical for fit for either size.
PATTERN NOTES: Read the entire pattern entirely before beginning to familiarize yourself with the project. Colors are never broken. Strand them along the edge of the shawl. When working more than two rows of color, keep colors locked by twisting the working color over the other color at the beginning of each odd (RS) row. Gauge is not important for fit, but if you are using the recommended yarn or similar yardage, it is important for yardage, so check gauge as well before beginning.
