Niitty Wrap
Every design has a heartbeat, and for the Niitty Wrap, everything started with a special souvenir. While exploring the bustling stalls of the Jyväskylä Knit Fest 2025, I fell in love with a beautiful rustic yarn from the Finnish mill Jalovilla. Its texture instantly brought to mind the sprawling, quiet meadows of Finland. Borrowing the Finnish word for meadow, Niitty, this wrap features a blend of airy lace and smooth stockinette, creating a canvas that honors the natural beauty of the wool and the memories woven into every stitch.
The Niitty Wrap is a rectangular shawl that combines a minimalist aesthetic with intricate textures. It is worked flat from one end to the other, featuring a striking vertical split achieved through intarsia knitting.
The wrap is divided into two distinct sections. One half is worked in classic stockinette stitch, providing a smooth canvas for future embellishment. The other half features a delicate lace pattern that adds airy movement and detail.
You will work with two colors simultaneously. By twisting your yarns at the center point where the stockinette and lace meet, you create a seamless join without any bulk or holes.
To give the wrap a high-end, finished look, both long edges are worked with a built-in i-cord selvage.
Once the knitting is complete, the stockinette section serves as a backdrop for embroidery. You can use the included botanical drawings to add a personalized, hand-stitched touch to the ends of your wrap using scrap yarn.
The length is easily adjustable by repeating the main pattern until you reach your desired measurement.
