November where I live is the time of year where the cold starts to set in. It’s also usually about the time that I suddenly discover I haven’t knitted myself anything to keep myself warm over the winter holidays, and start frantically knitting hats. Which is where the November beret comes in: quick and simple to knit with classic cables and moss stitch wedges. It’ll be knitted before you know it – just in time to keep your ears warm before December rolls in.

Difficulty: Intermediate. Includes knitting in the round, not-too-complicated cables, left- and right- leaning decreases and knitting and purling into the same stitch.

Pattern Style: Full written instructions, with charts. Some abbreviations used, but all definitions included.

Yarn: Aran/worsted weight. Samples were knitted with Cascade 220. You shouldn’t need more than one skein.

Tools/notions: 4mm circular needles (or size required to get gauge), DPNs optional, cable needle, stitch marker. For the largest size, I recommend using a smaller needle (e.g. a 3.5mm needle) for the first five rounds to allow for a better fit.

Other notes: Knitted from the bottom up in the round. I highly recommend blocking this hat, as it really opens out the cables.
