This is a very easy blanket to knit as it’s just simple, garter stitch squares. It’s only when you sew the squares together that it turns into … oblongs.

My blanket is knitted with DK weight yarn, a plain colour for the borders and two shades of variegated yarn for the coloured sections. I used 650g of yarn all together and my finished blanket measures 95 cm / 37”².

Having said that, you can use this pattern for other weights of yarn and I include detailed on instructions on how to do this so you can design your own blanket from this basic idea.
