Ohsan | pencil or hook case
All the things one can do with crochet squares is what I am exploring while developing The Travelling East Collection.
The design accompanying the Ohsan tile is functional. I really do love to use my crochet works and not let them idly lay around. So Ohsan became a pencil case, or a crochet hook case, or a cotton buds case… you see the point. All the things we can do with tubular crocheted cases! Enjoy and if you feel like, please do show me your finished objects, I love it!
Each tile in the collection comes with an accompanying triangle (to give you the freedom to use your squares as diamonds in cushions or blankets). It also comes with an original design to showcase the many possibilities we have to turn these tiles into different type of objects. Some will be small and simple, some will be larger and require some more time. The collection of patterns will give you options and suggestions.
Gauge:
Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, as long as your tile lies flat. However, different yarns give different gauges:
DK weight: 9sc x 8 rows = 5cm / 2”.
Aran weight: 8sc x 8 rows = 5cm / 2”.
Hooks:
√ Depending on yarn choice, 3.5mm/E-6 or 5mm/H-8 crochet hook (Adapt hook to yarn used).
Notions
√ Tapestry needle, stitch markers.
√ Zip-fastener (15cm/6” for DK weight case and 18cm/7” for Aran weight case).
√ Optional: fabric for liner
Yarn:
√ A #3 lightweight (DK, 11wpi), or #4 medium (Aran, 8wpi) per tile:
- approx 20m/21yd (C1).
- approx 25m/27yd (C2).
- approx 20m/21yd (C3).
- approx 12m/13yd for the sides.
√ The lavender-bordeaux pencil case was made in DK weight leftover cotton and acrylic in 4 colours per tile.
√ The black and blue Aran weight sample used Made by Me Fine Blend and Teetee Apollo
√ The sea green shaded, Aran weight sample tile used Katia Planet in colours 40057 (C1), 3964 (C2) and 4000 (C3).
