Once Upon a Time Kerchief
This is a very simple fairytale kerchief crochet pattern in a beginner friendly ‘granny’ stitch. Unleash your inner fairytale heroine, picking berries in the forrest. Or perhaps just use it as a headscarf when slouching about the house to keep your hair off your face. It makes a cute bandana.
This free pattern is part of the Once Upon a Time Make Along. For the duration of the event, it is available inside the discord server for the Make Along. The server is free to join, and open for sign ups from 4th August 2025. The main pattern bundle for the event goes on sale on 11th August 2025.
This free pattern will be available directly on my blog at the end of the event.
Materials.
The samples shown are made using exactly 1 ball each of Drops Paris worsted weight cotton yarn (75 meters). You will also need a darning needle, and an optional hair elastic. To match gauge, you will need to use an equivalent weight yarn. However, gauge is not critical to this pattern. Try it out in any weight yarn, and work until you have the right number of rows.
Size
This kerchief can be made to any size by adding or removing rows. Row counts are given for child and adult sizes for those matching gauge. This pattern is not recommended for babies under 3 due to risk of strangulation.
Accessibility
This pattern is free to read on my blog. The pattern is written in an easy to follow format, and presented without abbreviations for neurodiverse and screen reader accessibility. Print size is larger than standard, and can be further enlarged using the Ally widget on the web site, which also contains other accessibility features. You can find out more here
