This is a 4ply cowl in ripple stitch. It can be made from self-striping yarn, or a scrap ball of leftovers or mini-skeins of approx 10g each. It has an optional crocheted trim. The cowl measurement is adjustable in width and circumference. The fabric has a folksy appearance which is part of the character of this piece. Opus 3100 is worked flat, giving a vertical wavy ripple stitch stripe.

The pattern includes an adaptation for beginners’ thick-and-thin handspun yarn and 8mm needles.

The dimensions of the cowl when blocked without edging is approx circumference 44in (112cm); width 9in (23cm).

Requirements

• Yarn: For 4ply cowl without crochet edging: approx 100g (425m or 465yd) of any sock yarn of at least 2 colours, made into a scrap ball as described in the pattern. For handspun, 235m/257yd (approx 100g).
