Pamir Scarf
The Pamir Scarf is a fun and quick; a great palette cleanser, gift knit, and commute project. You get SIX different versions in one pattern!
Versions:
Skinny (Regular) / Stockinette (Striped) Garter
First pick the size you would like to knit:
The Skinny Version can be wrapped around the neck 2-3 times, while the Regular Version can be wrapped around the neck 1-2 times. You can also easily manipulate the length and width of the scarf while blocking.
Then decide between Stockinette , Striped or Garter :
The Stockinette Version (purple sample) results in a smooth fabric; but the scarf will curve inwards due to the nature of stockinette stitches.
The Striped Version (pink sample) incorporates rows of garter stitch to mitigate the curving issue seen in the stockinette version. Blocking and rolling the scarf when not in use can also help minimise curling.
The Garter Version (red sample) is for people (like me) who don’t like purling :) The right and wrong sides look very similar.
Dimensions:
Skinny Version: 118cm x 7cm (46½” x 2¾”)
Regular Version: 96cm x 8 cm (37¾” x 3¼”)
Suggested Yarn:
Pamir Fine Fibre Superior | Dense Line
or Cardiff Cashmere Classic
or Lang Yarn Cashmere Premium
or sub Sport or DK weight yarn
105 m 115 yd
Though designed to be knitted with one ball of 25g cashmere yarn, you can knit the Pamir Scarf in any yarn, at any weight (just use the recommended needle size for the yarn you’ve chosen). A Pamir Scarf in thicker yarn (in Worsted or Bulky weight) can be a great winter scarf; while a thinner version (in lace or fingering weight) can be worn as a hair accessory or tie. It’s a great project for using leftover half balls/skeins of yarns in your stash.
Gauge:
20 sts x 29 rows = 10cm (4”) in scarf pattern repeat, on 3.75 mm (US 5) needles, after blocking
Though getting the exact gauge is not very important for this pattern
Suggested Needle:
3.75 mm (US 5) needles
Or use needle size that obtains gauge
Notions:
Tapestry needle
