The PANEM Wrap is probably my closest version of the cowl worn in ‘Catching Fire’. As much as I need/want to have my neck covered (hence my first two versions) I just couldn’t get away from the chunky, funky coolness of the ropes on the cowl worn by Katniss in the movie.
This version still doesn’t have ropes (I found them way too stiff and heavy on the cowls) but it has the same look as the ropes, but with lots of softness and drape.

As with all of my previous patterns, I include photos, instructions and helpful links when needed.

JUST ADDED a short additional PDF with more details about adding braids to the body to create a second look from the same pattern as shown in the photos with the brown shirt under the cowl

The seaming on this cowl is simple and minimal.

The finishing process is just as important to me as the knitting, and I have also included the tips I have for making the finishing of your garment just a lovely as the knitting :-)

For the seasoned knitter, you can probably make this cowl in just a couple of days, novice knitters can probably get it done in about a week :-)

The arm opening can be worn on either side (the front and back are made the same!).

GENERAL SKILLS NEEDED: knit and purl stitches, increasing and decreasing.
I think this pattern is suitable for many skill levels, including an adventurous newby knitter.

Pattern written to make 5 sizes: XS, S, M, L, XL and also gives directions to customize the fit to your own measurements, although the fit of this garment is not super important and one size will fit many body sizes and types with no adjusting.

BASIC MATERIALS: about 300-450 yards of bulky or super bulky yarn (depending on size made)
size 15

GUAGE: 2.5 sts/ 3 rows = 1” on size 15
