This asymmetrical shawl is a simple stockinette knit that uses slipped stitches to create a subtle mosaic pattern and crossed / cabled stitches to add stripes that run the length of the garment. The pattern calls for two skeins of contrasting yarn, and it is a great opportunity to show off some of those beautiful colors you’ve probably been saving. The pattern is quite easy to learn and memorize at parts, so this is a great project to work on while watching tv or multi-tasking. Whether you are knitting it for yourself, a friend, or a family member, the future recipient is bound to love it.

Here’s a quick summary of the pattern based on the original sample:

Dimensions:
-- 100 in (254cm) in length
-- 24 in (61cm) in depth

Yarn Requirements:
This pattern requires two skeins of heavy lace-weight or light fingering-weight yarn in contrasting colors, and it can be adjusted to different accommodate different yardages. Details of the yarns used in the sample shown are provided below. Both of these skeins were essentially fully utilized.
-- Color A (Gradient): One skein of Blue Brick Point Pelee Lace in Copper Slate (heavy lace/light fingering, 130 grams, 720 yds / 658 m)
-- Color B (Variegated): One skein of Anzula Cloud in Charcoal (heavy lace/light fingering, 114 grams, 575 yds / 526 m)

Needles:
-- 3.25 mm / US 3 circular needles or size needed to obtain approximate gauge.

Gauge:
-- After washing and lightly blocking, 34 sts by 52 rows = 4 in x 4 in / 10 cm x 10 cm in the slipped-stitch, mosaic portion of the shawl.
