Buy two of my patterns and get one for free! Just place three in your cart and you only pay for two - no coupon code needed.>
A stunning accessory which is easy to knit and makes fantastic use of two lovely skeins of fingering weight yarn. This shawl is a very engaging knit, the different sections, with different colours, and absence of very long rows makes this an enjoyable knit, without being complex…it never gets boring!
For now the kits from Norah George Yarns are sold out. I will add updates here if they restock!
Pick your colours, sit down, cast on, and get ready to wrap yourself up in your Patronus!
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Length: 165 cm / 65”
Width: 56 cm / 22”
NEEDLES & NOTIONS
3.75 mm / US size 5 circular needle (minimum 60 cm/24” long). The shawl could be worked on straight needles if preferred; due to its size, I recommend a circular needle.
Removable stitch marker
Tapestry needle
Pins for blocking (blocking wires recommended)
YARN
Norah George Sock/Fingering weight yarn 400 m / 435 yards / 100 g, 1 skein each of Colours A and B.
Norah George Patronus Shawl Kits contain 2 skeins of 80% merino 20% nylon. Check out her website for availability.
Sample used kit colourway “Expecto Patronum”:
Colour A (speckled): 100 g / 400 m / 435 yards
Colour B (tonal): 80 g / 320 m / 350 yards
(yarn amounts include a 5 g buffer)
The design is conceived for a speckled yarn paired with a semi-solid or tonal partner. But you could use any two skeins you feel work together.
GAUGE
21 sts and 41 rows over 10 cm / 4” in garter stitch after blocking.
Adjust needle size if necessary to get gauge
If modifying the pattern or not knitting to gauge, different yarn amounts may be needed.
Pattern has been tech edited (by Nancy Bellamy) and test knit
