PEONY BUD HAT:
The hat is designed to be knit sideways. The short row elements create a flower bud and leaves in an Art Deco style.
YARN:
The Peony Bud Hat is designed to be knit in DK/light worsted weight yarn.
NEEDLES & GAUGE:
The pattern works with ANY type/format needles (it is not worked in the round).
I like using rounds with shorter cable, but honestly, I use is whatever I have handy at the time.
AVERAGE
uses US 05’s/3.5mm in GARTER STITCH & the short row pattern, before BLOCKING.
22 sts to 4” and 44 Rows to 4”
LARGE
uses US 06’s/4.0mm in GARTER STITCH & the short row pattern, before BLOCKING.
20 sts to 4” and 42 Rows to 4”
NOTE, I did not block these hats. They are meant to have lots of stretch, I dry them flat.
SIZES:
This hat is knit in GARTER. It will look TINY and stretch a ton; lots of negative ease.
The fit should be snug. Both sizes fit my head, which is 21.5”. One is looser, one is tighter.
It is designed to fold over at the bottom for a doubled edge or be quaintly tall without any folding.
AVERAGE
Knitted piece is 8.25” wide (16.5” around) & 11.5” tall (not brimmed/ no fold).
Fits my head, that is 21.5” around, comfortably.
LARGE
Knitted piece is 11” wide (22” around) & 12” tall (not brimmed/ no fold).
Fits a head, that is 24” around, comfortably.
NOTIONS:
A yarn sewing needle for joining. Markers if desired. Scrap yarn for Provisional Cast On.
