Peruvian Central
The pattern can be bought separately or as part of the More Trainspotting for Stitchnerds collection.
The Peruvian Central railway is considered an impressive feat of engineering, zigzagging up to giddy heights.
Although it was the inspriration for this scarf/shawl, the stitch engineering required to turn garter stitch into zigzags is much simpler.
There is just one row in the foundation section and only one right side pattern row in the border, making this a quick, easy and portable knit.
The pattern includes two versions, which means you can produce two very different styles:
Version 1 creates zigzags in 2 or more colours using kfb.
It’s a great way to use approx. 100m of a special yarn or one you can’t wear too close to your neck.
Version 2 uses yo’s to create interest in a single colour version, and is particularly good for showcasing the subtle shading of handpainted yarns.
The pattern is very flexible and can be adjusted for several yarn weights and sizes - minimum yarn requirements will be:
300m (330 yds) for a single-colour version.
200m (220 yds) of main colour and 100m (110yds) of contrast colour for the two-colour version.
Many thanks to the testers for their beautiful knits and helpful feedback:
