Petalette Shawl
There is currently a discount of 25% off if you buy 2 or more of my patterns. No coupon code is needed.
This little Tunisian crochet shawl is designed to use up that precious one skein of fingering yarn you’ve been hoarding! The lace body is worked sideways as an asymmetrical triangle. Texture is provided by the ruffle of little petals along the lower edge. A delicate shell border on the wide end adds a feminine touch.
Size: 55” wide, 57” along slanting edge, 18” tall (after blocking). If you wish to make it bigger, guidelines are provided in the pattern.
Skill Level: Intermediate (a basic knowledge of Tunisian crochet techniques is needed). The shawl has a number of openwork stitches which are explained in the pattern notes and which will help you expand your TC repertoire.
Yarn: 100 grams fingering weight yarn. The sample used one skein of Cascade Heritage fingering weight sock yarn (3.5 oz/437 yds/400 meters). A solid colour or a gradient would work well; variegated yarn will not show the stitches well. It is recommended that the yarn you choose has the same or more yardage. Note: if you wish to use a heavier weight of yarn, guidelines are given in the pattern notes.
Hooks & notions: US Size I/9 (5.5 mm) Tunisian hook, US Size E/4 (3.5 mm) and G/6 (4.0 mm) crochet hooks, yarn needle, stitch markers. The Tunisian hook will need to hold a maximum of 65 stitches, so you may prefer to use a cabled hook.
The Petalette Shawl was originally published in the April 2017 issue (#37) of Happily Hooked Magazine. The pattern was professionally tech edited and checked before publication, and has been tested on Ravelry.
A very big thank you to my wonderful testers who joined me in a fun test!
