Pleats
A very versatile reversible two color pattern combining stranded knitting and ribbing.
The charts can be used to make anything from a skinny pleated scarf to a large pleated shawl.
The sample shown is quite small - it’s big enough to use as a compact scarf or neck warmer.
The sample was knit on 2.25mm/US1 needles. The yarn is from colorshiftyarn:
MC Violet to Midnight Color Bridge 640yds/584m in 8 shades
CC Wisteria Gradation 960yds/877m in 6 shades
I started knitting at the darker end of both of the yarn sets and worked approximately half way through the MC, so the full range of shades is not used in the sample.
Unfortunately, ColorShift is currently unavailable and would appear to be discontinued. If you are looking for substitute yarns, ColorShift Yarn is described in the Etsy Store as a two-ply jumper weight (fingering) yarn milled from 23.5 micron superwash Merino wool that knits up at about 8 st/in on US1-2 needles (2.25-2.75mm). There is a Gorgeous Gradients group here on Ravelry which might be a good starting point for substitute gradient yarns, and you can click on the “yarn ideas” tab above to see what yarns have been used in Ravelry projects.
Dimensions of sample after blocking: 28in/72cm long x 10in/25cm
The width reduces to approximately 4in/10cm when the ribbing is fully closed.
The sample does not use all the yarn! Using up all the MC yarn will give at least double this length.
Gauge:
approximately 31sts and 27 rows = 4 inches in stranded ribbed pattern when fully stretched
For a looser gauge, try 2.75mm/US2 needles.
For a slightly bulkier project you can use Jamieson & Smith 2ply Jumper Weight yarn on 3.25/US3 needles.
The pdf contains 3 pages of charts and short written instructions.
