Porthkerris is a bottom up boxy sweater with a finished chest circumference of 92-182.5cm (36-71in), designed to be worked with 15-21cm (6-81/2in) of positive ease. The top is worked in the round to the armhole divide, then the piece is worked flat in two halves to the shoulders, which are shaped using short rows and cast off using the three needle bind off.

The garment is narrower at the waist and increases towards the chest to give room in the armpit. Smaller sizes increase at the armhole for a gusset, while larger sizes have some armhole shaping so the drop shoulder ends in a similar place on the arm across the size range. The sleeves are picked up and worked down to the cuff and feature a 3/4 length sleeve.
