Posey is a crescent-shaped shawl with a center panel of falling posies surrounded by simple stockinette wedges. Posies also adorn the knitted-on scalloped bottom edging. Optional beads catching the light can be placed at the center of each posy. A versatile piece, Posey can be worn as a shawl on a cool summer evening or wrapped around your neck on a cold day with the center lace panel peeking out from underneath your coat. If you have not knit with beads before, Posey is a great introduction to the placed bead method.

I am an avid baseball fan, and my team is the San Francisco Giants. After numerous swatches of similar lace patterns, I took a picture of the one I decided on to send to my friend, Lori. I saw posies as I looked at my phone screen, and it made me think of one of my favorite players, catcher Buster Posey. I hope you enjoy knitting Posey.

Posey starts with a garter tab and is worked from the top down. After knitting the body, stitches are cast on to work a knitted-on bottom edging. This edging is worked perpendicularly to the body of the shawl, binding off one stitch from the body of the shawl every right-side row.

You can choose to knit with all of the placed beads, placed beads on the center panel only, placed beads on the bottom edging only or knit with no beads at all.

Square beads are heavier than round beads. If you are buying beads by weight, make sure you refer to the correct weight for the shape of bead you are using to make sure you have enough.

Swatch yarn and extra yarn are included in the yarn requirement.

106 size 6 seed beads or 4mm square beads
1.0mm-1.15mm steel crochet hook for placing beads
