The Puget Tote is an all season, multi-activity tote, perfect for the knitter who wants to step out of their comfort zone for a bit of a challenge. It’s a softly-structured, open-topped shoulder bag knit in moss stitch with a folded stockinette upper edge. We also include instructions for a simple lining, making this bag both chic and practical.

Finished Size 10” wide, 4” deep, and 12” high, not including straps.
Yarn Appalachian Baby Design U.S. Organic Cotton Sport Weight (100% organic cotton; 194 yd / 3 oz): undyed, 3 skeins.
Needles Size 2.5 (3 mm): straight, 32” circular, and set of double-pointed. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions Markers; stitch holders; tapestry needle; sewing needle and thread; sewing machine (optional); iron; lining fabric (see Notes): 1 piece 14.5” x 30” for bag lining, 1 piece 8.5” x 11.25” to cover base stiffener, 1 piece 6.5” x 14” for interior pocket; heavyweight fusible facing (see Notes): 2 pieces 12” x 14”, 2 pieces 4” x 10”; plastic mesh stiffener (see Notes): 1 piece 4” x 10”; .5” magnetic snap; unbleached cotton webbing strap, 2” wide x 3 yd length (or desired length).
Gauge 26 sts and 36 rows = 4” in St st.
Notes The bottom of this bag is worked flat, starting with a provisional cast-on. Stitches are then picked up and the bag body is worked in the round. Each strap loop is backed with a short section of moss stitch worked flat from stitches held at the bottom of the loop and grafted to the bag body at the top of the loop. The faced lining includes a simple pocket and base stiffener.
