The drawbridge of Shirburn Castle in Oxfordshire is pulled up or lowered by thick chains. It doesn’t take much imagination to recognize these chains in the cable pattern of the Shirburn socks. And since only one stitch is cabled at a time, it can be done without a cable needle once you get the hang of it.
