Rainbow Chain Carriage Blanket
April 29, 2009:
Errata alert!
A couple of sharp-eyed Ravelers have pointed out some errata in this pattern to me (thank you!), and I’ll list the corrections here. I’ve also let Jody at Knotions know.
Rows 1-8 of the chain pattern are correct.
Rows 9-16 should read as follows:
Row 9: CC: K2, sl 2, k6, rep from until 4 sts rem, sl 2, k2.
Row 10: CC: P2, sl 2, k6, rep from until 4 sts rem, sl 2, k2.
Row 11: MC: K2, sl 2, k6, rep from until 4 sts rem, sl 2, k2.
Row 12: MC: Knit.
Row 13: CC: Knit.
Row 14: CC: Purl.
Row 15: MC: Knit.
Row 16: MC: Knit.
Also, the gauge for the rows is 24.
If you work the pattern as written in the original pattern, it will look like NatKnits’ Rainbow Blanket or grammabunny’s Gavin’s First New Blanket which are both beautiful.
I apologize for an inconvenience my mistakes may have caused and I do appreciate being alerted to them.
A classic chain stitch is updated here as an off-white grid that lays over the rainbow of colors that move from yellow all the way through green. Working with only one color per row keeps the pattern simple and easy to memorize. The border is knitted as the blanket is worked so the finishing is quick: just work in loose ends.
The possibilities for variation are endless: use a self-striping or variegated yarn for the background, create your own background with left-over yarns, a solid background with a multi-colored chain……
The finished size is approximately 28” x 28”.
