Alternating ribbons of garter stripes and classic Old Shale lace undulate across the asymmetric shape of the Rhawnhurst Shawl.
Worked from the base of the triangle to the tip, the shawl is shaped with short rows and the straight edge has a smooth I cord edging.

Choosing colors: For the striped sections, I recommend a speckle for Color A and a high contrast solid for Color B. Select a color that’s in the speckle for Color C. I chose a pink, even though it’s a bit out of my comfort zone, and I love how the colors work together!

Sample shown is worked in Sock by Malabrigo, 100% Superwash Merino Wool, 100 g (3.5 oz)/402 m/(440 yds). Colors are all 100 Single Lot. Speckle (Color A), Dark (Color B), Medium/Light Solid (Color C).

Needles
US size 5 (3.75 mm) 32” needle (suggested), or size to obtain gauge.
The shawl is worked flat; the long needle is to accommodate the large number of stitches.

Gauge
In garter stitch 22 sts and 52 rows = 4” after blocking.
Exact gauge is not crucial. Use a needle size that gives you a fabric that you like, but be aware that a change in gauge can affect the amount of yarn used and the size of the finished shawl.
