Ribbed Cross Granny Square
This modern granny square pattern takes inspiration from tapestry crochet techniques to create a pretty but durable piece of work. It would be perfect as a coaster, or as part of multiple squares for a blanket or cushion cover.
The “cross” in the pattern is achieved using front and back post double (or treble if you’re in the UK) crochet stitches, which are fully explained with accompanying photos as part of the pattern.
The pattern I’ve linked to makes a 4x4-inch square, but this can easily be sized up using either a larger hook than stated (try 3.0 mm) or by adding several more rounds of each colour.
I’ve used Natura Just Cotton in Topaze/Jade, Ivory, and Aswan (less than 1 skein required for each colour). By using 100% cotton yarn, the resulting square is durable and can be machine washed.
