It’s been my experience that a wide, short knit seems to go quicker than a narrow, tall one. This probably has something to do with the fact that I will procrastinate doing things until ‘the end of the row’ and so with fewer chances to get another cup of tea, turn up the stereo, check twitter (megitwat btw) let the dogs out, get the mail, find my sweatshirt, et cetera I get more actual knitting accomplished during my dedicated ‘knitting time.’ In designing this hat I wanted to take advantage of knitting a hat that felt like it went fast…and this definitely did! You could totally bang it out in a day.
This hat has more body stitches than other hats of this style I’ve designed, is knit on much larger needles and is minimally blocked. (I didn’t block the Kureyon version at all!) The decreasing at the top of the hat is done in only 5 rows so much of the hat’s ‘shape’ comes from the fact that it is ribbed and fairly loosely knit. Your ribbing will lay flatter towards the band and more scrunched at the top. As per usual I didn’t really do a gauge swatch (my bad…but really how many of you do a gauge swatch!?) but so long as your band fits your head and you use both worsted weight yarns and the same size needles you should be just fine.
As for the title…well it was a very fun hat to knit and it’s ribbed. Seemed logical. Don’t give this hat to anyone named Garth…my suspicion is he would say, “ewwww!”
