The Ridge Trail Fingerless Mittens are a warm and cozy accessory perfect for the cooler days when you need a bit of warmth, but also the use of your fingers! These fingerless mittens work up relatively quickly, as they use Aran weight yarn (though I have also knit them up in worsted weight as well!) The yarn I have used for my pattern samples is Drops - Nepal. I highly recommend this yarn if you are able to acquire it, as it gives the perfect density of fabric for the fingerless mittens, while also providing excellent warmth and comfort!
Skills involved:
Cables, use of DPNs or Magic Loop method for small circumference knitting, and a 1x1 Ribbed Sewn Bind Off (also known as Italian Sewn Bind Off)
The tutorial I used for the bind off is by Purl Soho and can he found here.
Finished sizes:
A, (B, C, D) Meant to be worn with 0 to 1 inch, (0 to 2 ½ cm) of negative ease.
6, (7, 8, 9) inches, (15 ¼, (17 ¾, 20 ¼, 22 ¾) cm) finished palm circumference.
Note: Choose a size closest to your palm measurement that will give you the ease you prefer. As an example: my palm size is 7 inches, so I will choose size A to give me 1 inch of negative ease. If you do not like a tight fitting mitten, choose a size closer to the actual measurement of your palm.
Yarn:
Drops - Nepal (65% Wool, 35% Alpaca) // 1.8oz (50g) = 82 yds (75m)
or the equivalent to an Aran weight yarn (example: I’ve also held worsted weight with a strand of mohair)
For sizes A, (B, C, D): Approximately 90, (106, 132, 161) yards, (83, (97, 121, 148) meters)
