This Lotus flower pattern was born of my desire to show off our hand dyed yarns and requests I had to teach people the colourwork mitten process. I would recommend this pattern to experienced knitters as there a few elements that the beginner might find challenging.
This pattern calls for 2 skeins of fingering weight (sock) yarn that are approximately 50grams/210 yards each in contrasting colours.
When choosing your yarn I find it helpful to take a black & white (gray scale) photograph to see if my yarn is contrasting enough. The more contrast in shades, the better the effect.
I use 5 dpn’s in size 2mm (US 0) but you can easily use a magic loop to knit these mittens. This will produce a small size mitten. If you are a tight knitter I recommend a size larger needle and of course knit your swatch.
If you are interested in the whole “kit and kaboodle” I will be posting pattern and yarn kits on my website in the near future.
