Rose Alley Shawl
The Rose Alley Shawl has something for everyone: garter stitch, easy mosaic color work, and simple lace to finish it. Choose two contrasting colors of fingering weight yarn to knit this asymmetrical triangle. The mosaic section is charted only; the lace section is written only.

Row 1 should read: k3, k2tog, yo, k4, yo, k3, p2.
SKILL LEVEL
Intermediate
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Wingspan: approx. 51.5”
Depth at center: approx. 24”
Measurements are taken after blocking and may vary depending on how vigorously the shawl is blocked. The size can be adjusted by working more or fewer sections of garter stitch and mosaic stitch; changing the size will change the amount of yarn used.
YARN
Fingering weight yarn: 335 yds Color A and 220 yards Color B
Sample shown in Highland Fingering by Cloudborn Fibers, 100% Fine Highland Wool, 494 yds/452 m, 3.5 oz/100 g, Stone Heather (Color A); and Amble by The Fibre Co., 70% wool/20% alpaca/10% nylon, 355 yds/325 m, 3.5 oz/100 g, Cross Paths (Color B).
NEEDLES
US size 5 (3.75 mm) 32” circular needle for garter stitch sections, or needle to obtain gauge.
US size 6 (4 mm) 32” circular needle for mosaic stitch sections, or one size larger than gauge needle.
NOTIONS
2 removable stitch markers
Blocking pins
Yarn needle
Optional: blocking wires
GAUGE
In garter stitch on size 5 needles, 18 sts and 41 rows = 4” after blocking.
In mosaic stitch on size 6 needles, 18 sts and 41 rows = 4” after blocking.
In lace pattern on size 5 needles, 18 sts and 28 rows = 4” after blocking.
Exact gauge is not crucial. Use a needle size that gives you a fabric that you like, but be aware that a change in gauge can affect the amount of yarn used and the size of the finished shawl.
