Bias pinstripes appear to flow into each other in the Runnel scarf and cowl, adding an architectural twist to the classic garter stitch accessory. The scarf has crisp lines and elegant drape when knit in worsted-spun Peerie yarn, and added texture and size in woolen-spun Loft yarn. The cowl has enough length to double up for more coziness when temperatures dip. In fingering weight gauge, both the Runnel scarf and cowl provide stylish warmth without excessive bulk.

Construction

  • The scarf is knit on the bias from the centerline out, starting with a Provisional Cast On. The pattern is formed by decreases on one edge of the scarf to create trapezoids and triangles; stitches are then picked up along the edge to work on the direction. The provisionally cast-on edge is then picked up and the second half of the scarf is worked in a similar fashion.
  • The cowl starts with a top-down triangle. Half of the triangle stitches are put on hold while the second half is worked in the same fashion as the scarf; the end of the scarf is then grafted to the held stitches to create a continuous loop.
