San Lazzaro Socks
San Lazzaro Socks
There is a small island in the Venetian Lagoon in Italy known as San Lazzaro degli Armeni, or Saint Lazarus of the Armenians. This island has been home to a monastery of Armenian Catholic monks since 1717. The tallest structure on the island is a bell tower with an onion dome, of which the patterning on these socks is reminiscent.
These slipped-stitch colorwork socks are worked top-down with a heel flap and gusset construction using two colors of yarn. The slipped stitch cables will really pop when there is significant contrast between the colors.
