Stashbusters, this one’s for you. Sea Glass Mittens are made for those treasured bits and bobs in your yarn stash, turning leftovers into something cozy and genuinely useful.

Worked in a playful 1x1 colorwork pattern, the fabric alternates colors every round to create a vibrant, ever-changing effect. No two pairs look the same, and that’s exactly the point.

Sized from toddlers to adults, they’re perfect for gifts, family knitting, or finally putting all those small scraps to work.

Design Details

The 1x1 colorwork creates a lively, kaleidoscope texture that lets your yarn do the talking. The cuffs and thumbs are worked in a single color, which grounds the design and frames the colorwork on the hand.

Folded cuffs add extra warmth and a classic mitten silhouette, while the overall look stays playful and personal depending entirely on the yarns you choose.

Pattern Highlights

  • Turns small scraps into a finished project
  • Fast and giftable knitting
  • Colorwork that’s engaging but easy to follow
  • Step-by-step video tutorials included

Construction Overview

Sea Glass Mittens are knit in the round from the cuff to the fingertips.

You begin with a ribbed cuff, then transition into the 1x1 colorwork pattern. Thumb increases are worked along the palm, after which the thumb stitches are placed on hold while the hand continues to the top shaping.

The mitten top is shaped with decreases, and the thumb is then picked up and worked in the round to finish.

Yarn Notes

Sea Glass Mittens are a true stash project. Use DK weight yarn as your main color and add scraps however you like:

  • fingering weight held double
  • DK leftovers
  • a mix of both

Because the pattern alternates colors every round, even very small yardage amounts become usable. It’s a great way to turn yarn you didn’t know what to do with into something you’ll wear constantly.
