Shamrocks
At our 2025 Retreat in San Francisco, the Royal Bee Yarn store in Pacifica hosted us. When we visit yarn stores I make a point to add to my sock yarn collection, and I found a lovely green yarn which I knew would be perfect for a pair of spring socks. The shop does not dye their yarns but works in collaboration with a local dyer. As soon as I got home I contacted Jamie Young, the new owner of the shop who provided me with a skein of the same yarn for this issue. (Since I plan to keep the socks, I will donate this yarn as a prize for our monthly newsletter contest.)
A student in my Basics class used the Cloverleaf Eyelet Cable (A Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara Walker, page 170), and I knew it would be perfect for the socks as it creates an extremely stretchy fabric—perfect for socks.
The socks are worked toe up with a short-row heel construction.
A word about sizing: due to the stretchy fabric of the stitch pattern, the only difference in the sizes is the foot length. Since it is worked toe up, you can try it on. If you need a wider circumference for the leg, go up a needle size.
