Shima Shima (Japanese for “stripes”) is a two-color striped ribbed sock with a unique construction — the instep and sole are worked separately and joined as you knit. The stripes require no stranded colorwork, and the instep and sole are connected without intarsia or seaming. The garter stitch sole adds stretch for a great fit. Video tutorial links are included.

Note: This pattern was originally designed for The Wandering Flock Sock Club in sport weight yarn. For the individual release, fingering weight options (gauge, sizes) have been added, as suitable substitute yarns are easier to find.

Needle A (NA): 2.0 mm - 2.25 mm (US 0-1), 80 cm / 32” circular needle x 2

Note: Note for needles: Choose the needle size depending on your knitting tension. Each needle can be substituted with a different type, as long as it’s suited to its intended use.

Shima Shimaは、2色で作るストライプのリブ模様と、インステップ(甲)とソール(底)を別々に編んでつなぐユニークな構造の靴下です。2色のストライプは編み込みではない簡単な模様編みです。インステップとソールは、インターシャやとじはぎではなく、編みながら繋ぐ方法です。ソールも伸縮性のあるガーター編みなので、フィット感のよいリブソックスになります。動画解説リンク付き。
