Start with a nice stretchy cast on, work a few rounds of reverse stockinette stitch, and then you’re off on an easy-to-memorize, four-row pattern. You’ll use slip stitches, along with knits and purls, as you side step to the bind off. Knit in the round, this project is a gentle introduction to colorwork since only one yarn is worked at a time. Two high-contrast yarns will best show off the design. This pattern includes both written directions and charts.

This pattern is very flexible. You can mix two different weights or types of yarn for a different effect, but be sure to keep contrast between the colors. Make it taller or shorter or even vary the number of “steps” before side stepping in the other direction. Changing the size may affect the amount of yarn needed.
