Hats crocheted side-to-side are a perennial favorite, because they are fast and easy to make and because crochet is more elastic in that direction. This variation on the classic concept is worked in shell stitch with worsted weight yarn. The top avoids a gathered appearance because it is shaped using crocheted short rows. Other than the first and last rows, the whole thing is a six-row repeat, and the first row is made using foundation shell stitch. Made with a deep, fold-up brim, this hat is warm and cozy to wear, and instructions are provided for three sizes (infant, child, adult).
