Signs of Spring is a matching set of mittens and tam worked in 2-color stranded designs meant to celebrate the return of color and life to my yard in Spring. Suggested yarns are Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift, Elemental Affects, or Kate Davies Designs Millarochy; feel free to substitute the fingering yarn of your choice. The mittens used 2 skeins of each color of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift. The tam also used 2 skeins of each color of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift. The mittens and tam each used a total of just under 400 yards. Gauge is 34 sts and 36 rows using the palm stranded pattern, after blocking. Gauge here was achieved with a US #2 (2.75 mm) needle.

This pattern is presented only with charted instructions. When working stranded patterns, carry the color not in use loosely along the inside of the work. Reserve thumb stitches on scrap yarn instead of a stitch holder as this makes it easier to try on the mitten for size.
