Silver Fir Shawl
Silver Fir Shawl is the perfect lightweight layer to add to your wardrobe in transitional seasons. This shawl features a unique construction, with the center spine worked first and stitches picked up along each edge to create the shawl wings. This knit is sure to stun with its allover embossed cabled texture, enhanced by the elegant drape and sheen of a merino-bamboo blend yarn.
Two schematics are included with this pattern: one indicates measurements & knitting directions, the second shows where stitch patterns are placed throughout the shawl to provide easy visual reference of how the patterning is laid out!
This pattern assumes knowledge of picking up stitches, cabling, increasing, and decreasing. Both charts and written directions are included. While you will not need to use charts to make this pattern, you will be required to insert a pattern into a set of directions (ex: k1, ssk, k5, p1, sl m, work Shawl Body to next marker, sl m, k5) where directions for “Shawl Body” are provided in another section.
Suggested Yarn: Knitting Notions Classic Merino Bamboo, or other light fingering weight yarn that knits to gauge
Sizes: One Size - Shawlette
Wingspan: 62” / 157.5 cm
Height at Center: 16” / 40.5 cm
Yarn Requirements: 525 yds / 480 m
Gauge: 30 sts and 36 rows = 4” / 10 cm Blocked gauge in Silver Fir Body Pattern
Needles and Notions: US size 4 / 3.5 mm needles, cable needle, locking stitch markers, stitch markers, tapestry needle
Designer Note: I was able to complete the full shawl using one ball of the specified yarn, Classic Merino Bamboo, with 5 grams of yarn to spare. I have added a 10% buffer to the yardage I used to help ensure you have enough yarn to complete your project. I would recommend buying at least the recommended yardage, and maybe a little extra, due to the allover cable patterning in this design.
