Simmermal Socks
Simmermal Socks
These ankle socks are worked from top down, with a traditional heel flap. The design uses three colours only: a background shade, a foreground shade and an accent colour. The heel and toe are worked in a slipped stitch pattern creating extra reinforcement and cushioning to the parts of the sock that get the most wear. Short row shaping is used to turn the heel making it rounded and formed to the foot.
In Shetland, simmermal is traditionally regarded as the first day of summer, April 3rd. These cheerful ankle socks are made in summery colours but made in Shetland wool will keep your feet warm in the summer evening chill. The socks are not intended for everyday use as Shetland wool will not withstand daily wash and wear.
The pattern is one size adult but the actual size can be changed quite dramatically using larger or smaller needle sizes.
Please pay particular attention to the required tension as my knitting tends to be close.
