This is a “Plug and Play,” or “Choose your own Adventure” type of pattern—a recipe for a lacy, top-down triangular shawl, suitable for any weight of yarn or gauge, which can be knit to any size. The six interchangeable stitch patterns are all six-stitch repeats, and you can arrange them any way you want to personalize your shawl. Specific instructions are given for the three samples I’ve knit, as well as general rules for you to follow for your own designs.

Techniques you will need to know or learn in order to make this shawl:

  • garter tab cast-on (instructions included in pattern)
  • knit and purl
  • yo increase
  • k2tog decrease
  • ssk decrease
  • cdd or s2kp, a centered double decrease
  • a loose, stretchy bind-off (instructions for designer’s preferred method are included)

This pattern was released in April, 2022. Hands on Knitting Center in Redlands, California hosted a virtual knitalong in in May-June. Participants received additional resources, and access to five weekly Zoom sessions.
Watch this pattern page to see if more knitalongs or classes around this design might be held in the future.

Errata: There are extra yarnovers in Row 1 of the general instructions. To complete the body of the shawl, whether working in garter stitch or stocking stitch the instructions should read as follows.
