In this beanie hat design, the cable detail starts slightly higher on each column, creating a subtle spiral detail. It makes it a little different from standard hats, while still being a very wearable twist on a standard Aran motif.

Any Aran yarn should be suitable for this pattern, 5 mm needles/US8 are recommended, but there is some leeway given that Aran yarns can vary a little in thickness. I would suggest being guided by the needle size recommended for the Aran yarn you are using.

The hat is very forgiving in size, since the ribbing gives it some comfortable stretch; and the length can be adjusted between finishing the cable detail and starting the crown decreases.

The hat is seamless, having been knit in the round, and is super soft and comfortable to wear! It has a lot of stretch since it is ribbed throughout. The beanie measures around 19 inches (48 cm) in circumference (flat, unworn) and 9 inches (23 cm) from brim to crown (but as I said, it can be adjusted in length as you are knitting).
